Hosted by the Humane Society of the United States, the trip to Vieques island in Puerto Rico was a wonderful mission to bring aid to the local horse population. Most of the horses had never received medical attention. It was a pleasure to participate in the field work alongside the HSUS vet team and amazing staff. More than 100 horses received veterinary care, and local horse owners received books/equipment/resources. 50 of the domesticated horses also received the PZP vaccination; this is a contraceptive administered to female horses in order to humanely control population growth on the island. Thank you Equestrian Magazine for writing about this important work and mission!
